Isolation in God

By Pr. Eileen Gelderbloem

What does it mean to be in isolation with God?

A few years ago in 2018, the Lord called me to go into Isolation with Him, and I could feel a pulling in my Spirit, that this was what He needed me to do.

So, I began to ask God what He meant by going into isolation, was this a physical thing or a spiritual one? Because isolation to me, meant closing off the world and going off the grid, which in my life is a near impossibility.

So, I asked the Lord to guide me on His desire for me to seek Him in isolation.

Isolation means state of being separated from other people

As I began to talk to God even further, I realized that Isolation is a place where God can take you into the secret place and begin to reveal more of Himself to you. It’s the place where you are able to think clearer, hear clearer and begin to form new ideas and get creative and solve problems and get revelation and understanding.

And in understanding that, God will begin to speak in isolation, and give me new ideas and visions and dreams, I began to unpack this further.

This is almost like a form of incubation because incubation is a process of development. Incubation in religion or Christianity is defined as:

“the religious practice of sleeping in a sacred area with the intention of experiencing a divinely inspired dream or cure.”

1 Kings 3:4-6

Genesis 46:1-3

Here we see 2 instances where God is able to speak to Solomon and Jacob in a dream because everything else around was no longer a distraction.

When we read more examples of God speaking to someone in the word of God, he usually does it when that person is alone and in isolation or in the wilderness.

Moses in the desert – Exodus 3:1-6

Abraham on the mountain Moriah – Genesis 22:1.

I began to understand that isolation was God’s way of incubating me and taking me away from the “noise” of everyday distractions and things that would hinder me from hearing His voice clearly.

Isolation brings:

Protection – Psalms 91:1-2

Healing – Psalms 147:3

Strengthening – Proverbs 18:10

Illumination – Daniel 2:22

Vision – Joel 2:28

Revelation – Jeremiah 33:3

Validation and confirmation – John 15:1-5

God wants to get your attention so that He can reveal Himself to you and show you who He really is.

He wants you to know that he is your source, you divine provider, healer, deliverer.

So go into isolation and begin to ask these questions:

  1. What is the purpose of this isolation?
  2. What is God wanting in this season?
  3. What is God wanting to say or reveal to me in this season?

And as you enter into your time of isolation, get ready for God to transition you, to your next.
